Showcasing skills, films, and experiences of the Bostonian behind the lens.
I was the Lead UX Designer and Web Designer throughout the project cycle from requirements gathering to strategy, wireframing, prototype designing, and website development. I also collaborated with key stakeholders to brainstorm ideas and problem-solve.
1. Empathize
User Interviews: I conducted several stakeholder interviews to gain insight into AJ’s professional experiences, education, and completed projects. This led to a better understanding of user needs, behaviors, and expectations.
Card Sorting: Using card sorting, we were able to organize AJ’s experiences into categories that would later become the navigation for his online portfolio.
2. Define
Despite AJ’s impressive body of work, our videographer does not have an organized online presence that showcases his expertise. Without an online gallery of his work, recruiters will have trouble locating and viewing his many impressive projects. The goal of this project is to create a visually appealing, user-friendly platform that effectively narrates the story of AJ’s film career.
3. Ideate
Utilizing the information from the stakeholder interviews and our collaborative card sorting sessions, I have identified a narrative user flow that AJ’s website can utilize to effectively communicate his experiences, skills, and projects.
4. Prototype
After deciding on the optimal user flow for the website, I designed wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes that would later become AJ DeCaprio’s portfolio website.
5. Test
After developing the high-fidelity prototypes into a functional website, I was able to conduct usability testing to gain insight and feedback on any changes that needed to be made to the design.
6. Implement
With the addition of feedback from our users during usability testing, I was able to update the design of the website and publish a visually appealing, user-friendly website that effectively narrates the story of AJ’s video career.
Upon reflection of this case study, it's evident that a user-centric approach, combined with creative design solutions and iterative testing, can result in a portfolio website that not only meets its objectives but also enhances the overall user experience. I look forward to seeing AJ's career continue to thrive with his new and improved portfolio website.
