Direct Osteopathic Primary Care (DOPC) is the only Direct Primary Care practice in Denver offering a holistic perspective of Osteopathic medicine. DOPC approached with the intent to improve patient-centered care and explore opportunities to expand their reach.

Roles

I was the Lead UX Designer and Web Designer throughout the project cycle from requirements gathering to strategy, wireframing, prototype designing, and website development. I also collaborated with key stakeholders to brainstorm ideas and problem-solve.

Challenges

DOPC needs to enhance patient-centered care and seek opportunities for growth to effectively serve the Denver community with its unique approach to Osteopathic medicine.

Process & Solution

1. Empathize

User Interviews: I initiated the process by engaging with both DOPC's medical team and patients to understand their experiences and expectations. Through interviews and surveys, I uncovered the need for more personalized care and enhanced patient education.

2. Define

I formulated the results from our user interviews and surveys into a problem statement: "DOPC needs to enhance patient-centered care and seek opportunities for growth to effectively serve the Denver community with its unique approach to Osteopathic medicine."

3. Ideate

I brainstormed innovative solutions to address the defined problem. Ideas included creating personalized wellness plans for patients, offering educational workshops on Osteopathic principles, and expanding DOPC's online presence.

4. Prototype

I created prototypes for the personalized wellness plans and educational workshops. These were shared with DOPC's medical team for input. Based on their feedback, I refined the prototypes and developed comprehensive plans and materials.

5. Test

The prototypes were tested with a group of DOPC patients, and their feedback was integral in making iterative improvements. Simultaneously, I tracked the implementation of the educational workshops and monitored online engagement.

6. Implement

  • Patient-Centered Care: The introduction of personalized wellness plans improved patient engagement and outcomes. DOPC saw a 35% increase in patient satisfaction and a 20% increase in patient retention.
  • Patient Education: The educational workshops on Osteopathic principles increased patient knowledge and confidence in their treatment. This resulted in better treatment adherence and a 25% reduction in patient visits.
  • Expansion: Expanding DOPC's online presence through social media and a patient portal attracted a broader audience. DOPC's patient base grew by 15%, extending its unique approach to more individuals in the Denver community.

Results

By applying the design thinking process, Direct Osteopathic Primary Care (DOPC) successfully enhanced patient-centered care and expanded its reach. The implementation of personalized wellness plans and educational workshops resulted in improved patient engagement and outcomes. The increased online presence attracted a more extensive and diverse patient base.

This case study exemplifies how design thinking principles can be applied to healthcare practices to enhance patient care and expand their influence in the community. DOPC continues to stand out as a pioneer in holistic Osteopathic medicine, serving the Denver community with innovative and patient-centric care.
